Parental angst drove a mother to suicide after her daughter, 9, refused to study for her standard IV exams on Monday night, reported DNA.
Minakshi Gutlikar, 35, told police before dying that she set herself on fire in rage after failing to get her daughter to study. She died at Cooper Hospital on Tuesday.
Senior inspector Suresh Nalavde of the Versova police station said that after dinner on Monday night, Gutlikar, a resident of D'Souzawadi, Versova village, told her daughter to study for a while.
The Gutlikars also have a three-year-old son.

The girl ignored her mother. Enraged, Gutlikar poured kerosene from the stove on herself and lit a match, said Nalavde.
Hearing her screams, her husband Vishwanath, a peon with the SBI, rushed to douse the flames. He then took her to Cooper Hospital.
