Naseeruddin Shah is all set to showcase his stellar performance in Michael. Directed by debutant Ribhu Das Gupta, who was Anurag Kashyap's assistant in Gulal, the Hindi film is a psychological thriller. With Michael, Naseer is making a comeback as a male protagonist after five years, in a role that's inspired by the trials and tribulations of a tainted cop. The veteran actor feels that after his portrayal of a common man in A Wednesday, Michael has a script that allows him to display his histrionics.

Explains Ribhu, "Michael is a father-son saga. We are currently in post-production and have not yet ascertained a release date. The film is produced by Anurag Kashyap and has been shot entirely in Kolkata." The story revolves around a senior cop Michael played by Naseeruddin Shah, who is wrongly convicted and dismissed from duty. It moves dramatically around him and his relationship with his son (Purab Bhandare).

Mahi Gill and Sabyasachi Chakraborty also feature in the film. Ribhu, who has also penned the script, said Michael needed to have a Kolkata setting as the story demanded it. "Naseeruddin Shah shot for it on a start-to-finish schedule in the city," he said. The film's rush prints were seen by Marco Muller, director of the Venice Film Festival, who was full of praise for the movie.
