For the first time, the Prem Bhatia Award for excellence in political reporting and analysis is being shared by two eminent journalists.

One of them is MiD DAY's Jyotirmoy Dey, who receives the honour posthumously for his superlative contribution in revealing the activities ofu00a0 Mumbai's underworld, his expose on corruption in police ranks, and his extensive reportage on the bureaucracy.

Dey was shot dead on June 11 by four motorcycle-borne assailants in broad daylight in a Powai street.

He shares the award with Josy Joseph of Times of India for his scoops on scandals such as the Commonwealth Games and Adarsh Housing Society.

The second award, for excellence in environmental reporting, has been bestowed upon Madhuraj, chief news photographer of Matrubhumi, for his vivid photographs focussing on national and international catastrophes along with highlighting the consequential use of endosulfan pesticide in Kerala.

He, also, shares the award with G Nirmala who has penned articles on the same subject in one of the publications of Samakalika Malyalam Vaarike.

Both the awards will be presented at the annual Prem Bhatia Memorial Lecture on August 11 at 6.30 pm at the India International Centre, New Delhi. Shiv Shankar Menon, National Security Advisor, will mark the occasionu00a0 with a speech.
