Mumbai police releases list of fake shopping sites after 22,000 people duped of Rs 70 lakh

The Mumbai police, on Tuesday, released a list of 12 fake shopping sites and warned people to not "fall in the dark web of fake sites!"

This step is taken in view of the recent arrest of a man who had duped 22,000 people across the country of Rs 70 lakh through fake shopping websites.

As per Hindustan Times, the cyber cell had received several complaints against website shopiiee.com.

"The fake website was selling dress material, imitation jewellery, and other household items through advertisements on Facebook," said Rashmi Karandikar, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) (cyber crime). Further investigation revealed that the gang had duped 22,000 people from around the country.
