Grades are no longer the only source for confidence. The ability to speak well is. So, how does one teach children confidence? By teaching them to act, judging by the number of theatre workshops that promise to equip kids with confidence (that rare, but prized commodity that we're told is the only skill we will ever need to make it in the real world).

The Pomegranate Workshop recently concluded a set of workshops for children using techniques from the theatre, visual and language arts. "We use theatre applications, including theatre games to build concentration," says Priya Srinivasan, director, about the Magic Reading Room programme set to commence end-June.

Acting at the Loft
The Art Loft, in association with Alliance Fran aise de Bombay, is conducting an acting and performance workshop with Julien Mulot and Madhumita Srivastava. "The focus is on getting children to use their imagination and to show them how a theatre group works," says Julien, who has completed his training from CNSAD (Conservatoire National Superieur d'Art Dramatique de Paris). Teamwork will be a vital part of the 10-day training, which will culminate in a 45-minute performance at the Alliance Fran aise on Saturday, June 4.

Kinnari Foundation has tied up with Silly Point Productions to conduct a 10-day theatre workshop spread over two weeks. Kinnari runs regular hobby classes to raise funds to support the education of economically less privileged sections of our society. "50% of the fee goes towards the cause. We were able to fund the education of 4,000 children, last year," says Asmi Shah, managing trustee.
