With the aim of promoting a new contact sport among Mumbai's martial arts enthusiasts, weekly Fight Nights promises loads of action-packed videos from the world's best Mixed Martial Arts teams while you indulge in great food and wine
If you walk into Lower Parel's drink-and-dine destination, Busaba, on a Wednesday, you might be in for a surprise, especially if you are a fan of martial arts. Prepare to be welcomed by a screening in which internationally acclaimed Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) experts will be seen pitted against each other. The screenings are part of an initiative called Fight Nights, which kicked off last week.

Somesh Kamra, MD, Mixed Martial Arts India approached the nightclub with this unique idea, to create awareness about the sport. Kamra has already started two MMA schools in Mumbai and is planning to start more shortly. "I want more people to learn about this sport. I am hoping the way people go to pubs or lounges to watch the IPL, they will do the same with MMA as well," says Kamra. But he admits that it won't be too easy, as a lot of people are not aware about MMA. According to him, the response for the first Fight Night was good and they hope to attract more crowds.
The entry for these Fight Nights is free with several promotional offers including three beers for Rs 500 and special Fight Night cocktails. "There are a lot of people who are attracted to this kind of sport. MMA is huge internationally, and given the time, it may become hugely popular here as well," says Roshmin Mehandru, public relations, Busaba. "It is also a great opportunity for people who are learning MMA to watch international experts. These Fight Nights hope to put MMA on a platform," he adds.
Meanwhile, Kamra has plans to start these screenings in other pubs/lounges as well.
