Hugo Barra, international Vice President of the Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi, is leaving the company after a period of 3.5 years. Hugo Barra was not only the global face of Xiaomi, but also had a significant contribution towards Xioami's growth and global performance over the years. Barra joined Xiaomi in 2013 and after February 2017, he will gradually head back to the Silicon Valley.

Hugo Barra joined Xiaomi when the mobile maker was confined only to the Chinese mainland. Under his guidance and leadership, the company stretched its wings beyond China and went up to Asia and Russia. During his tenure, the company has expanded rapidly from a mere start up and attained several milestones with the launch of several interesting products.

Barra has cited pressure, home sickness, and work hours as the reasons for quitting his term with Xiaomi. He stated all of these took a toll on his life and even started affecting his health adversely. He therefore decided to shift back to the Silicon Valley, a place closer to his family in Brazil.

Barra stated that Xiaomi has a major footprint in the global tech market. After him, Senior Vice President, Xiang Wang, wof Xiaomi will take over and lead the business forward.
