New Chinese nook in Andheri, The Golden Twig, offers the most wholesome Indian-Chinese cuisine with that extra punch of chilly
Amboli residents rejoice! The dismal Kurry Leaf in the suburb, has now metamorphosed into a Chinese butterfly, called The Golden Twig. The d ufffdcor makes you feel like you have walked into an Oriental spa (like the ones that offer a Thai massage), since the Buddhism-inspired wall hangings and tame interiors don't exactly scream architectural wonder.

It's the very picture of a typical family restaurant. It's a lot like the famous South Mumbai, Chinese nook Kamling. Only, this one is more scaled down. On the bright side, The Golden Twig seems to be a worthy destination if the mood for Oriental food strikes ufffd and therein lays the redeeming factor.
A quick note about the service! While, we can grant that it's a new restaurant with teething issues, the small staff can get easily overwhelmed with a large crowd. It's not a huge minus point, but does require some amount of patience.
The Dragon Potatoes (Rs 160) arrive sizzling and popping to the table. The moniker may scream fiery and mythical but these are essentially honey chilly potatoes, sans chilly. Saut ufffded with garlic paste and healthy doses of honey, these are served as a nice deep-fried vegetarian starter. The only grouse here is that the potatoes could be crispier (much like honey noodles) and accompanied with a tailor-made spicy sauce to balance things out. Some garnishing would also be welcome.
Next, the Teriyaki Prawns (Rs 200) arrive doused in an overdose of various spices. These prawns are sensational! Marinated and cooked without the shell on the prawns, and nicely pan-fried after being marinated in teriyaki-based sweet and sour sauce.u00a0 The result is a spicy, piquant, tangy taste of shrimp that
wins this restaurant an extra star.
The Chicken in Burnt Chilly Sauce (Rs 175) was a tad disappointing. Any dish with a chilly base, needs the magic spice ufffd chili peppers. If the dish lacks the zing of spice, and feels more lukewarm like a peri-peri sauce base, then it doesn't hold up to its Chilly Sauce credentials. And while the Chicken in Burnt Chilly Sauce wasn't bad at all, (it was in fact, pretty good) it wasn't hot enough.
The Chicken Fried Rice (150) was good. Plenty of egg and chicken thrown in with a nice non-oily desi feel to it, made the dish fulfilling without leaving us with a heavy aftermath.
