Why didn't Rahul Mahajan dance?

Ashwni Dhir is disgusted with Rahul Mahajan's marriage on TV, wants to make film on the degradation of reality shows

Rahul Mahajan's Swayamvar on television disgusts Ashwni Dhir, director of the just-released Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge.



Says Dhir, "What is happening on television in the name of reality is unbelievable. Rahul Mahajan's wedding on camera made a mockery of the entire institution of marriage. What were these hopeful brides thinking when they danced in front of the bridegroom like nartakis while the bridegroom-to-be sat perched on a throne like an emperor checking out the apsaras in his durbar?"

Distasteful
TV writer (and now film director) Dhir, who has penned strong feminine subjects like Ladies Special for the small screen, found the whole exercise distasteful. "Why didn't Rahul Mahajan dance for the girls to see whether they liked his movements? The Swayamvar commodifies women and reduces them to nothing but decorative dolls."

The director is, in fact, writing a screenplay based on the whole farcical un-realism of reality television, which he will direct.

He adds, "At the moment, I can't reveal the subject. But I am doing two films one after the other. One is a slapstick comedy for Atithi producer Kumar Mangat and his daughter Amita. The other, which I'll start right away, is for Ajay Devgn's production house. This would be a more serious and subtle satire on the lines of the romantic comedies by Hrishikesh Mukherjee."
