Sucheta Raj Khanna, Author of The Stars Light the Way, in Conversation with Preeti Chaturvedi, CEO- The Sunflower Seeds (literary consulting)
What inspired you to write the book?
The inspiration behind my book is my father, Shri S.R. Kohli. Many years ago, I expressed a desire to write a book about him. He intuitively responded that the book I would write wouldn't be about his life, but rather inspired by it. And that's exactly what this book is - proof that the universe has a remarkable way of turning such promises into reality.
My father will forever be my first hero - a charismatic man whose very presence brought a sense of purpose to life. His love for knowledge, deep compassion, and unwavering commitment to spiritual growth have always been a guiding light for me.
In this book, I've poured my heart into honoring his memory, drawing from his life to craft a narrative that explores the delicate balance between the material world and the mystical realm beyond - through the journeys of the protagonists, SR and Shazma.
The Stars Light the Way intertwines everyday moments with extraordinary soul love and unbreakable connection, inviting readers on a transformative journey where the stars themselves illuminate the path forward.
What is the story all about?
It's not a conventional story - it's an inward journey through life's challenges and the unseen guidance we receive from realms beyond.
Shazma, the protagonist, finds her world turned upside down when she's offered a prestigious role in the Indian Parliament - disrupting the life she has carefully built with her husband, Nikhil, in Singapore.
As she grapples with this life-changing decision, she begins receiving mysterious signs from her late father, SR. These signs pull her back to her childhood, slowly unveiling hidden truths and deeper insights. This interwoven path of reflection and personal growth brings Shazma and her father closer than ever - across the veil of life and death.
With her father's wisdom reaching her from beyond, Shazma confronts her deepest fears and desires, and ultimately finds clarity and courage.
What are the key takeaways or messages from the book?
The book invites readers to reflect, to honor the unbreakable bonds of family, and to seek authenticity in the face of life's challenges.
It's especially resonant for those yearning to understand the deeper meaning of life and our place in the universe.
Through SR's journey in a parallel universe, the book brings us closer to the profound truth that the soul's evolution and learning continue - not just in this world, but also in realms beyond.
Who designed the book cover?
The book cover is truly exceptional - it evokes the beauty of Van Gogh's Starry Night. It was created by the brilliant design team at Penguin Random House India.
While the vision came from me as the author, it was the talented Penguin team who translated that vision into a breathtaking piece of art.
Why did you call it The Stars Light the Way?
During life's most challenging moments, I often find myself looking up at the sky in search of answers. The stars have always been a source of quiet strength and guidance for me.
That's why I chose this title - The Stars Light the Way symbolizes the faith, clarity, and hope that can guide us through even the darkest times.
What's your favourite quote from the book?
It's difficult to choose - every word is from my heart. But a few lines have stayed with me deeply:
"Fear and faith do not coexist."
"Swadharma is essential - duty to yourself is what gives meaning and power to Dharma in our individual lives."
"Soul love" can transcend death and create unbreakable connection.
Any message for the readers?
I truly hope you'll support this book. It's not just a story - it's an invitation to explore the deeper truths of our existence.
If you've ever questioned your purpose, felt the presence of a loved one beyond the physical, or simply searched for meaning in everyday life - this book is for you.
